Street Hall
As part of the third phase of the new expansion of the Yale University Art Gallery the American collections are to be installed in a restored and renovated Street Hall. Originally designed in 1864 as a School of Art by architect Peter Bonnet Wight, this historic building has served many functions for the University. In 2007 the Gallery's Departments of American Paintings and Sculpture and American Decorative Arts were asked to present their program for the installations of their collections in Street Hall.
More Information
In order to complete this task, we engaged to assist documenting the existing building and assessing its suitability for the exhibition of the American collections. Given little time, the collaboration with the curatorial staff produced an Historic Structures Report that became the basis for the Departments' architectural program. The result was a collection of historic and building data, historic photo-documentation, a building chronology and identification of significant architectural features recommended for preservation.
