We are pleased to share that the West Hartford Town Council has unanimously approved Madsen Acres, a new 54‑unit affordable condominium community we designed in collaboration with Honeycomb Real Estate Partners. The project will transform 2.49 acres of underused land on Newington Road into a thoughtfully planned residential neighborhood that expands access to affordable, for‑sale housing in West Hartford.
Our design for Madsen Acres includes six townhouse‑style buildings containing 38 one‑bedroom and 16 two‑bedroom homes. All units will be deed‑restricted as affordable under Connecticut’s 8‑30g statute. The homes will be available to households earning between 60 and 80 percent of the area median income, creating meaningful pathways to homeownership for families who may otherwise be priced out of the community.
We approached this project with a focus on neighborhood integration, walkability, and long‑term livability. The site plan incorporates 71 parking spaces, stormwater and drainage upgrades, and landscaped open spaces to support both residents and the surrounding Elmwood neighborhood. Its location near transit, retail, and daily services makes it an ideal setting for sustainable homeownership.
Council members and residents voiced strong support for the development during the approval process. Several emphasized how crucial it is to expand attainable homeownership options in West Hartford, especially through a program designed to maintain affordability across future generations. The thoughtful planning and community‑centered design of Madsen Acres were highlighted as strengths of the proposal.
With the unanimous approval from the West Hartford Town Council, the project now moves toward the next phase of implementation. We are proud to play a role in bringing forward a development that reflects responsible planning, strong collaboration, and a commitment to community needs.
