Two QA+M Schools Earn National Recognition
December 5, 2017

Two of QA+M Architecture’s education projects have been selected for publication in American School & University within the magazine’s annual competition spotlighting today’s most outstanding designs.

QA+M’s comprehensive renovation of Wethersfield High School in was selected to appear in American School & University’s Architectural Portfolio in the November/December 2017 edition, and also online at SchoolDesigns.com. A once-deteriorating building, Wethersfield High School now shines as a vibrant learning center and community hub after QA+M revitalized more than 85% of the building, including every classroom and window, over a three-year period. Project highlights include a complete gutting and transformation of the auditorium to create a professional-quality performance space, as well as the renovation of the media center and central atrium. The school remained fully functional during construction, and the new building blends seamlessly with the existing structure. Its complete transformation created a 21st-century, innovative learning instrument where students want to be.

The Academy of Aerospace & Engineering at John Wallace Middle School in Newington was honored in AS&U’s Educational Interiors Showcase, an annual competition honoring excellence in educational interiors and recognizing the most effective learning environments. QA+M Architecture transformed a 10,000-square-foot vocational wing, once home to traditional shop classrooms, into a high-tech academy dedicated to a rigorous, aerospace-focused STEM curriculum for seventh and eighth graders. The project was featured in the August edition of the magazine and also online at SchoolDesigns.com
