QA+M Architecture is rehabilitating Veterans Terrace, a 150-unit affordable housing development on Columbus Circle in East Hartford. During a community outreach event on Wednesday, July 11th, QA+M’s Tom Arcari and Carson Collier presented design concepts to Veterans Terrace residents, encouraged community participation throughout the construction phase, and addressed the community’s questions and concerns.
The revitalization plan includes the demolition of the existing buildings; allowing for the creation of new, energy-efficient and accessible residences. New components of the revitalization will include private entranceways, modernized kitchen and bathrooms, improved site security, decorative landscaping, community buildings, and various recreational amenities that will help transform the complex into a welcoming, mixed-income community.
The Veterans Terrace project is offering the East Hartford Housing Authority a unique opportunity to drastically improve its largest housing complex, which has existed for 67 years and is in desperate need of repair. “We are proud to be part of a project that will give people a chance to be proud of where they live,” said Tom Arcari. “The revitalization of Veterans Terrace will provide more opportunities for residents to lead a quality life.”
Pending funding approval, the project is on track to break ground in the Spring of 2019.
