Soffer Athletic Center
The existing athletic building at Berkshire School housed a gymnasium, dance studio, locker rooms and four squash courts. The original project scope was to add four squash courts and renovate the locker rooms. However, after exploring numerous layout possibilities during the conceptual design phase, the project scope was expanded to completely renovate the 51,200 SF building for a uniform new and updated appearance. And the squash center became a ten-court, 11,000 SF addition with all courts grouped around a central viewing area.

More Information

By rotating the addition at an angle, a passage through the building was created that ended at a large glass façade looking out towards the mountains. The gymnasium renovation utilized extra space to provide the school with a training and fitness area, a climbing wall, strength and conditioning space, and inset of turf. The revitalized athletic center opened in October of 2016.
