Renbrook School Library
Components of the plan included additional parking, computer and art classrooms for the Upper and Lower Schools, an art and music classroom for the Beginning School, a gymnastics space, sculpture studio, language labs, an expanded auditorium, dining hall and kitchen. All of these components have been realized within the last decade. One program wish remains unfulfilled: a new library for Renbrook School.
More Information
The first floor of the library is organized around a light-filled central space that contains the print and audiovisual collections and reference library. The circulation desk and librarians’ workroom is centrally located in this space with excellent visual supervision of the entire room. There is a light-filled bay window on the first floor for recreational reading, which faces the downhill view toward the Hartford skyline. There is also an intimate west-facing space that creates a sense of enclosure for the story corner. Facing back across the lawn toward the Rentschler house is a group study room with worktables and direct access to the library terrace.
