Renbrook School Library + Technology Center
For Renbrook School in West Hartford, QA+M designed and fully implemented a 12-year campus master plan by creating: a new 14,000-SF library and technology center, new science and technology classrooms, a new cafeteria, an expanded auditorium, and a gymnasium. All these facilities are interconnected around two campus courtyards creating both functional and campus cohesion. The library includes the library collections, archives, IT department, and fits the needs of the entire preK-Grade 9 school community.
More Information
Energy-efficient design elements include a geothermal heating/cooling system. The first floor is organized around a light-filled central space that contains the print and audiovisual collections and reference library. The circulation desk and librarians’ workroom is centrally located in this space with excellent visual supervision of the entire room. A light-filled bay window on the first floor faces the downhill view toward the Hartford skyline. An intimate west-facing space creates a sense of enclosure for the story corner. Facing back across the lawn toward the Rentschler house is a group study room with work tables and direct access to the library terrace
