In order to provide programs in the Northeastern Connecticut community, a new YMCA facility was built in Putnam, specifically on the Quinebaug Regional Technical Park site. Since the park was being developed concurrently with the Y, a new road and vehicular bridge had to be constructed, and utilities extended across the river. Parking, a pedestrian/bike path, and playfields for soccer and baseball are located south of the 48,000 SF building. A steam room, sauna, whirlpool, and two large pools are provided: an 8-lane, 25-yard competition pool with spectator seating, and a warm water family pool. The full-size gymnasium has bleachers, can be subdivided, and is suitable for basketball, volleyball, and other hard-court activities.
