Music Rehearsal Hall
Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, completed a building campaign aimed at strengthening its programs in the Fine Arts. One such project is the new Music Rehearsal Hall located at the rear of the existing Austin Arts Center on campus. In addition to the rehearsal hall itself, the new building houses faculty offices, music practice rooms, an electronic music suite and a recording studio.

More Information

Acoustically, the building is very sophisticated. Each classroom and rehearsal room are designed so that there will be no sound transfer between the spaces. Likewise, the corridor walls and doorways have been designed to eliminate sound transfer. Within the rehearsal hall itself, strategically placed resonator walls, acoustical clouds, and pocket draperies allow the room to be tuned for optimal acoustical performance for a wide variety of music types, from a solo violin to a 40-member samba ensemble. The mechanical systems for the building had to be carefully designed to produce the minimum amount of vibration and sound interference within the building. The systems are also designed to High Performance Building standards.
