Originally constructed in 1925 as the first Bulkeley High School, the M.D. Fox School underwent a comprehensive "renovate-as-new" transformation completed in 2013. The 115,000 square foot project included a full roof restoration and complete upgrades to all mechanical, life safety, security, and building systems. Interior renovations restored circulation paths, classrooms, science labs, and specialty teaching areas, while new programmatic spaces including entry lobbies, a cafeteria, and kitchen were thoughtfully integrated within the existing structure. Significant architectural features on both the interior and exterior were carefully preserved throughout.

The project achieved LEED Gold certification, a distinction that reflects the high performance building standards applied throughout the renovation of this nearly century-old structure. The site was also reimagined to enhance accessibility, improve traffic flow, and create a safe, pedestrian-friendly, and environmentally responsible campus.
