Fishers Island School

The Fishers Island School is a PreK through 12th grade public school serving one of the most unique student populations in the region. Of the school's 68 students, 33 are residents of Fishers Island while the remainder are tuition students who commute daily by ferry from New London, Connecticut, the only means of access to the island. The school's exceptional student-to-teacher ratio reflects the close-knit nature of the community it serves.

QA+M Architecture led a comprehensive renovation of the 27,520 square foot campus, working closely with educators to enhance existing learning environments and improve safety and accessibility throughout. Upgrades included improvements to classroom acoustics and educational functionality, modernization of the media center, and reconfiguration of the parking area and outdoor activity spaces. The project also added a secure entrance canopy, strengthening safety measures for students, faculty, and staff.

The completed renovation was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony bringing together students, parents, teachers, and administrators for a campus tour and a musical performance by the school's students. The improvements reflect QA+M Architecture's commitment to designing spaces that serve the distinct needs of the communities they support, ensuring the Fishers Island School is well positioned to continue its mission for generations to come.
