Colt Memorial Parish House
This High Victorian Gothic style and National Historic Landmark building was designed in 1896 to serve as a memorial to Caldwell Hart Colt, heir to Colt Manufacturing Company and a yachtsman who died at sea. The building is adorned with nautical decorative features, majestic windows, scriptural text, and pillars made of limestone, marble, agate, and granite.
More Information
QA+M was contracted for code modification research and recommendations to address egress and fire safety shortcomings in order to secure an assembly space for 200 or more people on the second floor. Our reviews included the history of the modification requests over the years. Field observation, investigation, and data regarding life safety, compliance, stairs, handrails, access points, openings, guards, strengthening and reinforcement masonry structures, and family / assisted-use toilet rooms will be compiled for presentation to the Fire Marshal. We will also outline alternative methods that may be permitted if compliance would threaten or destroy the historic significance of the facility.
