Cathedral Green
The former Cathedral High School in the Asylum Hill neighborhood of Hartford, CT had been out of service for several years, and had become a neighborhood eye sore. This three story, brick and brownstone structure was built in 1928. It is a handsome, well-constructed building.
More Information
In 2005, the Archdiocese of Hartford, through Catholic Charities, began an effort to renovate this building into family housing. The planning for the project involved the full participation of all stakeholders in the Asylum Hill neighborhood. Affordable, family housing was identified as the greatest need.
While it has taken nearly three years, the project is now well under construction. The old school will house 28-, two- and three-bedroom family units. Building amenities include a community room, management office, storage and maintenance rooms, and laundry rooms on each floor. The building will also be made ADA accessible with a 3-stop elevator incorporated into the building.
