Alvin and Beatrice Wood Human Services Community Center
When it was determined that the existing repurposed junior high school which housed Human Services had become inadequate and unsalvageable, a new 56,000 SF Community Center was built on the same site. It was designed the bright and airy facility around a central courtyard with the goal of enhancing services for Bloomfield residents of all ages. The Senior Services Department and Leisure Services Department are located on the main level, while Social and Youth Services are on the upper level. Shared amenities include subdividable multi-purpose and activity rooms, a gymnasium, great room, lounge, cooking and art rooms. Two new soccer fields were created once the former facility was demolished. A ground-breaking ceremony was held in May 2018 and grand opening on August 1, 2019.
