This house, built in 1920, is the work of the Hartford firm of Smith and Bassette Architects. QA+M Architecture was engaged to design a master plan for the renovation and expansion of the building. The program calls for necessary exterior repairs, the restoration of the primary rooms in the house along with the renovation and expansion of the kitchen, bathrooms and other amenities. The program also calls for a major addition to the original house, designed to extend its 'parti' in similar architectural style and be integrated with the original landscape and site topography.
Facilities accommodated in the new addition include a great room, with a billiard room below. The construction of the new wing and a new pool house are to match the existing, with rusticated brownstone exterior walls and rough slate roof. The site components of the project include extensive new gardens and terraces, a swimming pool and tennis court, and the relocation of the access drive.
