Project Spotlight: Greater Middletown Military Museum
In honor of Independence Day, QA+M Architecture is proud to spotlight the Greater Middletown Military Museum, a meaningful project that reflects our dedication to designing spaces that preserve history, honor service, and foster community connection.
Located in Middletown, Connecticut, the museum serves as a regional archive of military history, chronicling the contributions of local veterans from the American Revolution through present-day conflicts. The design supports a mission of education and remembrance, offering visitors an immersive experience through thoughtfully curated exhibits, historical artifacts, and interactive displays. A centerpiece of the museum is the restored UH-1H Huey helicopter, which saw active service in the Vietnam War era. The helicopter now anchors the outdoor exhibit space and draws visitors into the narrative of service and sacrifice.
Adjacent to the museum is the Connecticut Trees of Honor Memorial Park, a solemn and beautifully landscaped tribute to Connecticut residents who lost their lives in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the events of 9/11. The memorial also honors the four-legged war hero, Sergeant Stubby, a decorated canine from World War I. Together, the Greater Middletown Military Museum and memorial park create a unified space for reflection, education, and civic pride.
The design balances functionality with symbolism, ensuring that the museum serves not only as a repository of history but also as a place of emotional resonance. Materials, layout, and landscape elements were selected to support storytelling, accessibility, and long-term preservation. We are honored to have contributed to a space that celebrates the courage, sacrifice, and legacy of those who served.
