QA+M Architecture Welcomes New Team Members to Northeast Middle School Site Tour
QA+M Architecture recently hosted a site visit to the Northeast Middle School (NEMS) project in Bristol, CT for several of our newest staff members. Led by Associates Carson Collier, AIA and Mike Lane, AIA, the tour offered a unique opportunity to explore the construction progress and engage with the design in a real-world context.
Northeast Middle School is scheduled to open for the 2026 school year and will accommodate up to 748 students in grades 6 through 8. The design reflects QA+M’s commitment to creating dynamic, student-focused learning environments. The school’s layout includes a three-story academic wing that supports eight student teams, fostering collaboration and grade-level identity. A two-story specialty wing houses dedicated spaces for Art, Music, and Technology, ensuring students have access to a broad and enriching curriculum.
At the heart of the school is a double-height entry and central corridor — referred to as the “main street” — which connects the academic and specialty wings with shared spaces such as the Gymnasium, Media Center, and Cafetorium. This central spine encourages movement, interaction, and a sense of community throughout the building.
For our new team members, the site visit was more than just a walkthrough. It was a chance to see how architectural ideas evolve from concept to construction, ask questions about design decisions, and understand the impact of thoughtful planning on educational spaces. These experiences are an essential part of QA+M’s culture, reinforcing our values of collaboration, mentorship, and design excellence.
