May is Mental Health Awareness Month—and a reminder that healing environments matter.
QA+M Architecture is proud to support the mission of tagging Newport Institute in Seymour, CT. Set for completion later this year, this project transforms a 40,000 SF former wedding venue into a state-of-the-art adolescent behavioral health facility.
Designed with recovery and dignity in mind, the campus includes six residential “pods” grouped by age, gender, and diagnosis, as well as shared dining spaces, therapy rooms, classrooms, fitness and art areas, and ample outdoor activity zones.
The site’s redevelopment also included navigating complex regulatory approvals and correcting pre-existing non-conforming conditions—ensuring a safer, more sustainable future.
We’re honored to contribute to a facility that supports youth on their journey to healing—while helping to shift the narrative around mental health care through design.
