Ready…Set…Shovel!
Construction on the Middlefield Memorial School Renovation has officially begun, marking an important milestone for the communities of Durham and Middlefield. This milestone project includes major renovations to the existing 47,000-square-foot building, along with an impressive new two-story, 60,000-square-foot addition, bringing the total footprint of the new facility to over 107,000 square feet.
The new facility will bring together students from three separate schools across Durham and Middlefield, transforming the Middlefield Memorial School into the Three Oaks Memorial School. The new school will serve Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5 students under one roof, creating a unified and modern learning environment for the region.
The modernization will include upgrades to classrooms, technology education, performing and visual arts, assembly and community use areas, and much more. Every aspect of the design was developed with the students, educators, and community members who will use the building in mind. The goal was not simply to renovate an existing structure, but to enhance a facility to best serve the needs of the students and the community.
The new campus is designed to serve as a community hub as well. Three Oaks Elementary School will be a place where students learn and the broader community has access to shared spaces and resources. It is also intended to serve as a model for school upgrades across Connecticut, demonstrating what thoughtful design and careful planning can accomplish when the right team comes together around a shared vision.
